Our story

Commissary Cosmetics began with a simple observation: while commissaries provide many basic necessities, cosmetic & self-care options remain extremely limited due to packaging restrictions.

Rather than accepting these limitations, we worked to redesign the product architecture itself to comply with institutional guidelines.

The current phase of development focuses on intellectual property protection, engineering development, and preparation for future prototype manufacturing and pilot testing.

None of this is possible without you sharing our story, supporting our GoFundMe, and spreading the word. Connect with me on LinkedIn.

Why this matters

For people in institutional environments, small self-care routines can support mental health, emotional stability, and a sense of identity. Maintaining these routines can provide moments of normalcy in highly controlled environments where individuality is limited.

Studies & rehabilitation programs have increasingly recognized that dignity, self-expression, and identity retention play an important role in psychological well-being during both incarceration & the reentry process. That’s where we come in.

Our Mission:

The goal of Commissary Cosmetics is to help bridge the gap between:

  • accessibility

  • quality

  • affordability

We intend for our products to offer reliable support through hydration, protection, or treatment formulas — and to avoid price gouging, which is an unfortunate reality in many correctional facilities.
